The 2010 Tower Power Challenge
Saturday 22 May, 10am-4pm
We did it!
What a great day we had seeing all our runners challenge the 600 stairs at Bridgewater Place in Leeds on Saturday 22 May.
It was an adrenaline fuelled tower race, with Fitness First personal trainer Dylan Noble coming first with a brilliant time of 3 minutes 12 seconds.
There was a real community and family feel to the day and we were joined by Leeds Rhino mascot, Ronnie the Rhino, Darth Vader and his storm troopers and also The Stig, which made for a great environment. Music was provided by local band Northern Twang which helped keep the runners motivated before they set off up the tower.
And of course we couldn't have done it without help from all our wonderful supporters, including our corporate supporters: ghd, High 5, Philpotts, Lush, SB Sports Massage, Samuels Taylors, SpringHill Water and Well Pleased Events. Make sure you take a look at some of the photos from the day.
The event has gone some way to helping us raise the £90,000 needed towards our target of £1.7 million for ‘The Big Move’ appeal*. So a big thank you to you all.
And don't forget you have till 18 June to get your sponsorship money in.
We provided the Tower… You brought the Power!
*Our Leeds ‘Home from Home’, Eckersley House, has to be relocated from St James’s Hospital to Leeds General Infirmary. If we don’t move Eckersley House hundreds of children will go through prolonged treatment without their families being close by. Read more about 'The Big Move' appeal here.

Some thoughts from the runners on the day .
Karl Canning, concierge at Bridgewater Place said: “I’m reasonably fit, but this is quite a challenge, the last four floors were tough, but it’s a brilliant event. When I heard about the challenge, I really wanted to do this. It’s great to give something back."
Megan Bell Walker, aged 10 said: “ I made my Dad and my uncle and his friend Pete run up the Tower for The Sick Children’s Trust. Eckersley House is really important, as I like to have Mummy and Daddy near me when I’m in hospital. Daddy did great, and I’m really proud of them!”
Darren Bell Walker (Megan’s Dad): “What a great event, really delighted to run for The Sick Children’s Trust! The charity has been a great support to us while Megan undergoes cancer treatment. We’re more than happy to give something back for a great cause.”
Pete Robinson, Manchester (family friend): “I was more than happy to run up the Tower for Megan, when she asked, you just couldn’t say no! Great result for everyone and very happy to support The Sick Children’s Trust.”
Farida Khawaja: “I just wanted to say that the event was really well organised. I had a lot of fun.”
Liz Crosland : “Thanks for a fun morning on Saturday, we really enjoyed it! Driving into Leeds this morning I smiled when I saw the tower rather than scowled at it as I did last week!”
