Our History
1982 The Sick Children's Trust is founded by Dr Jon Pritchard a pediatric oncologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital1984 Rainbow House opens to support Great Ormond Street Hospital with accommodation for eight families
1987 Michael Crawford becomes President of The SCT
1990 10 Guilford Street House opens to support Great Ormond Street Hospital with accommodation for six families
1993 Eckersley House opens to support St James's Hospital, Leeds with 15 bedrooms
1996 Crawford House opens to support The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with accommodation for 16 families
1999 Hugh Stevenson retires as Chair and is succeeded by Stephen Catlin
2000 Acorn House opens to support Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge with 9 bedrooms
2001 Treetop House opens to support Sheffield Children's Hospital with 12 family bedrooms
2003Stevenson House is opened by Hollywood actress Minnie Driver to support The Royal London Children’s Hospital with accommodation for 12 families
2006Acorn House extension opens to support Addenbrooke’s Hospital adding six more family bedrooms allowing 15 families to be accommodated every night
2007The Sick Children’s Trust celebrates its 25th Birthday
2008The Sick Children’s Trust identity is re-branded
2009Newcastle’s Crawford House extension opens, adding seven further bedrooms; the house can now accommodate 23 families every night
2009The Big Move fundraising appeal is launched to raise £1.8million to move Eckersley House from St James's Hospital to the LGI following the move of children's services
2010Our new Eckersley House based at the Leeds General Infirmary opens on 1st July accommodating 22 families per night
2011A fundraising appeal is launched to build a new ‘Home from Home’ at the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge
2011Stevenson House extension opens to support The Royal London Children’s Hospital adding four more family bedrooms, making 16 in total
