House Manager - Stevenson House

Location: Stevenson House, London
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours 

Job description and specification

We are looking for a full-time House Manager who is friendly, hard-working and open-minded to join our team in our ‘Home from Home’ based at The Royal London Children's Hospital in London. The House Manager has full accountability for the management of the house and key responsibilities include: welcoming new families to the house, liaising with ward personnel to prioritise families in need of accommodation, being supportive and understanding to families at all times and being alert to the security of the house whilst ensuring families understand the need for this. You will also be required to carry out some light domestic duties. The House Manager will work to The Sick Children’s Trust’s high standards to achieve consistent, excellent delivery of our duty of care and emotional support for the families that we accommodate. 

We need a special individual who is motivated, sensitive and will be supportive to families staying in the house. The role requires an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate excellent organisational, operational, leadership and motivational skills.

Events Officer - Head Office
Location: Head Office, London
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Job description and specification

We are seeking an Events Officer, ideally with one years’ experience in special events fundraising. This busy role has lots of variety and to succeed you’ll need to be a good communicator both verbally and written, be able to build relationships and successfully manage and prioritise your own workload.

The Events Officer will provide support to the Special Events Manager with the planning and delivery of special events and the delivery and stewardship of key challenge events such as The London Marathon. The role will also provide support to other areas of the organization with event requirements and lead on small scale House events such as anniversaries. If you would like to join a hard working but sociable team in central London that supports a fantastic national cause, then this may be the role for you.

Volunteering vacancies
Pyjama Party volunteer - London
We’re looking for a volunteer to support the Community Fundraising team in promoting our Pyjama Party campaign. This will include contacting nurseries and schools to encourage them to sign up, assisting the team with administrative tasks around the campaign and sending packs to supporters.

Pyjama Party - volunteer role profile

Guilford Street House volunteer - London
We’re looking for a volunteer to help support Tina, our House Manager at Guilford Street House. If you can spare a couple of hours a week, preferably on set days, Tina would love to hear from you. The role will include assisting Tina with all house duties, as well as participating in any fundraising events the house may be holding.

Work experience
The Sick Children's Trust often provides work experience opportunities for individuals looking to gain experience in the charity sector, perhaps after study or a change in career. We host placement students from anything from one week to several months, and provide hands-on experience across different charity functions. For example, we have previously partnered with universities to host students on funded placements during their summer breaks. 

All our opportunities are bespoke and developed in discussion with the university, college or individual. We do not pay placement or work experience students, but we do contribute to travel and lunch expenses. For more information, please email info@sickchildrenstrust.org.  

My experience

Caroline Land volunteered with our Special Events team for three months: “Working for The Sick Children's Trust was such a great experience. I'm keen to carve a career in events so this voluntary role gave me a great insight into the process of event planning from start to finish. 

“I worked on the charity's Supper Club event and was fully involved in its development - meeting with the venue, ironing out details, organising schedules and seeing everything come together. Being present on the night of the Supper Club was an honour and it was wonderful to see first-hand how my hard work had helped the charity host such a successful fundraising event.

“The team in head office were very welcoming and made my time at The Sick Children's Trust really enjoyable. Volunteering at the charity helped to broaden my experience within the events arena and I am proud that my work in the Special Events team will go some way towards supporting many more families with seriously ill children.”
