We are delighted to announce that we have launched a major fundraising appeal for a new 'Home from Home' at the Rosie hospital in Cambridge.
Cambridge University Hospitals are extending the Rosie hospital with a three storey extension to build a new unit. The unit will be equipped to care for the sickest and most vulnerable babies from all over the East of England and occasionally beyond, and will have a neonatal intensive care and special care baby unit with 58 cots for intensive care, high dependency and special care babies.
The unit will include a 'Home from Home' which will be run by The Sick Children's Trust. The house will be on the ground floor of the extension close to the neonatal intensive care unit. It will provide a comfortable, calming facility for families. With eight en-suite bedrooms, a communal living area and cooking and laundry facilities, the 'Home from Home' will help more than 300 families every year.
"Providing parent and family accommodation is crucial in ensuring we offer our patients a full range of services. Travelling great distances on a daily basis to be with sick newborns in intensive care places a huge strain on families, both emotionally and financially at a very difficult time. Our new ‘Home from Home’ environment will hopefully ease this pressure and ensure the family can focus on spending time with their baby. We are thrilled that The Sick Children’s Trust are supporting us in this venture.” Amanda Cahn, Associate Director, Women’s and Children’s Services.
Our new 'Home from Home' will open in summer 2012 and we still need to raise in excess of £220,000 to complete this project. With your help we can ensure that families are able to stay close to their newborn baby, so that these poorly babies can get the best possible start with their family on hand to offer love and support.
To help raise the much-needed funds, we have launched a Buy-a-Brick Campaign.
