Did you know?
• The bicycle was invented in 1817 by Baron Karl von Drais and was often referred to as the ‘Human Horse’. It has no chains or pedals and was propelled by pushing your feet along the ground – very different to the mountain bikes of today!
• It is estimated that cycling at 25mph will typically burn around 1,374 calories per hour, making this a great way to get lose weight and keep yourself healthy.
• Around 105 million bicycles are produced each year, which is double the number of motor cars produced.
As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, this special five day challenge event will bring together cyclists of all levels to have fun, see The Sick Children’s Trust’s ‘Homes from Home’ in action and raise money for seriously ill children and their families.
Starting at Stevenson House in East London, the cycle will take you across the country (London to Newcastle, via Cambridge, Sheffield and Leeds), stopping to visit all of our ‘Homes from Home’ before you reach your final destination of Crawford House in Newcastle, where you will be welcomed with well-deserved refreshments.
The route has been designed by cycling professionals and promises to be a wonderfully scenic tour of the country, which will satisfy experienced cyclists without being too daunting for beginners!
Minimum sponsorship is £1,400 and this includes your registration fee of £100, plus all of your meals and accommodation along the way.
