Did you know?
The Honourable Artillery Company was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1537 by King Henry VIII. Regiments of the Company have fought with distinction in both World Wars and its current Regiment, which forms part of the Territorial Army, has a demanding and exciting role.
The Company is a Registered Charity whose purpose is to attend to the better defence of the realm and this purpose is primarily achieved by the support of the HAC Regiment.
The Company, whose Captain-General is HM Queen Elizabeth II, is governed by a Court of Assistants. The Court operates through a number of Committees and together they provide the strategy and policy to be implemented by the Executive.
More than £55,000 was raised for The Sick Children's Trust when utterly brilliant TV presenter Timmy Mallett joined a host of well-known cricket and celebrity names, including the Harry Potter stars, James and Oliver Phelps, to take to the field for a celebrity charity cricket match.
With a batsmen friendly wicket and fast outfield, and The Honorary Artillery Company ground bathed in glorious sunshine, conditions were perfect for a big scoring game. The Bunbury's batted first an unwritten rule in matches involving the team and opening batsmen Matt Walker showed why he can still cut it as a professional, as he batted through the innings to finish not out on 144 one of the highest ever individual scores by a Bunbury player.
The SCT XI were left with a daunting target of 240, but following some big-hitting by former Kent player Steve Marsh and friendly bowling from Oliver and James Phelps, the charity team eased to a comfortable victory as Timmy Mallett hit the winning runs.
Celebrities such as Joe Kinnear (ex Newcastle United manager), Paul Davis (former Arsenal footballer) and James Kirtley (former English test cricketer) played on the Bunbury side against The Sick Children's Trust team which also included TV presenter, Timmy Mallet, Neil Lenham (ex- Sussex CCC Captain) and Alan Wells (ex- Sussex and England all rounder).
The day was also an opportunity for families who have used the charity's houses to come along and show their support for their team. The evening event was hosted by Esther Rantzen and included an auction with unique items such as Bee Gee Barry Gibb's signed guitar, tickets to watch the Wizard of Oz with an opportunity to meet the cast afterwards including Michael Crawford OBE.
A huge thank you to ICAP for being our gold sponsor!
