Did you know?
Weston Park was the first municipal park in the city and was developed from the grounds of Weston Hall.
Robert Marnock was commissioned to design the park in 1873 and opened to the public on Monday 6 September 1875 with the following days Sheffield Daily Telegraph saying: "The weather was fine. The Park looked in its gayest Summer dress. The walks were freshly graveled, the flower beds were trim and well ordered."
In 1882 the Weston Park Weather station was erected. It is the official climatological station for Sheffield and one of the oldest weather stations in the country.
In 1905 the park was visited by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra during a visit to Sheffield in which they also opened the nearby University of Sheffield.
Thank you to those who took part in the Treetop House sponsored walk on Sunday 12 June. Our walkers were met with heavy rain this year as they walked through Weston Park in Sheffield.
But this didn't dampen spirits and despite the weather calling off a lot of the day's planned activities, families still came out to support our Treetop House staff and around £1,000 was raised in sponsorship!
Watch this space for next year, when we hope to make the walk an even bigger (and drier!) success.
