The Acorn Autumn Ball – Saturday 8th November 2008
On Saturday night, guests joined us at The University ArmsinCambridgefor The Acorn Autumn Ball.
The event was a glamorous night of fine wine, delicious food and fabulous entertainment. Guests were treated to a champagne reception, followed by a sumptuous three course dinner with wine in the stunning ballroom.

Magician Dan Gifford (www.dangifford.com) kept everyone entertained with his amazing tricks.
Special guests Lady and Lord Archer helped to make it an even more memorable occasion, particularly since Lord Archer took centre stage to conduct the auction – raising an amazing £7,500 from just eight lots!
One particular auction lot proved very popular – a specially framed drawing by Harry Marsden aged 4. Earlier this year, Harry underwent urgent surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital to remove part of a large tumour on his brain. While he was in hospital, his mum, dad, Nanna Jan and baby brother Joe stayed in Acorn house, one of The Sick Children’s Trust ‘Homes from Home’.
Lisa says ‘we are convinced that Harry’s recovery has been greatly accelerated by being able to visit Acorn House with us and by having a real home to relax in. Thank you to The Sick Children’s Trust for helping us through the worst time in our lives’.
Harry’s drawing of thanks for The Sick Children’s Trust was auctioned off for an amazing £800 jointly bid for by Lady Archer and George Lamberty.

Following the auction, guests tried their luck at the roulette and black jack tables in the ‘fun casino...while being entertained by the talented Sam Burkey, a highly acclaimed jazz pianist and vocalist.
We are delighted to say that the event raised just under £14,500 and that all the money will go towards our work with families across the country who have a seriously ill child in hospital.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event, we really appreciate your support.
