Raise The Roof
We've done it!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Raise the Roof appeal to extend Crawford House, our ‘Home from Home’ at The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle – thanks to you, we’ve raised the £470,000 needed and all the construction, painting and making beds is complete!!
The move follows a major reorganisation of children’s health services in Newcastle which will see a brand new specialist children’s hospital opening at The Royal Victoria Infirmary in 2010 when the total number of paediatric beds will rise from 142 to 229.
The extension is vital if we are to keep pace with growing demand for accommodation for families from across the North East – we’ve been able to add seven more bedrooms, bath/shower rooms and a small lounge - enabling us to support up to 350 additional families of sick children every year!
Back in May 2008 football legend Alan Shearer helped to launch our Raise the Roof apeal...

...And Alan came back in March this year to officially open the new extension and welcome our first family into the first room!
Alan said ‘I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to discover your child is seriously ill, let alone travel miles away from home for the specialist hospital treatment they require. But Crawford House is an amazing place where mums, dads and siblings of children being treated at the RVI can stay, a real ‘Home from Home’. I’m honoured to be a part of it.’
It was a wonderful day and the new extension looks great! See photos below…
