This year our Snowflake Ball raised over £34,000 to support families with a seriously ill child in the North East. This year’s event, held in partnership with the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (Chuf), marked a particularly special milestone: the 10th anniversary of Scott House, our ‘Home from Home’ at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.
Hosted at The Biscuit Factory in central Newcastle on Friday 6 December, the evening welcomed 125 guests for an evening filled with warmth, joy and the chance to reflect on the vital role Scott House has played for families over the past decade.
The success of this special evening was made possible through the generous support of headline sponsor Accenture UK, along with Week2Week as silver sponsor and JT Dove as welcome sponsor.
The fantastic Cal Halbert returned as host, set the perfect tone for an evening of festive celebration. Guests were treated to a stunning opening performance from the Encore Dance Entertainment Group, captivating musical moments from the Newcastle College Musical Theatre Department, and a rousing set from The Overthinkers that filled the dance floor with energy and smiles.
Fundraising was at the heart of the evening, with guests participating in a live auction, silent auction, and raffle, as well as pledging support through the purchase of miniboos – small, knitted keepsakes offering comfort to premature babies and their families.
A particularly moving moment of the evening came when Alec Berry, our family speaker, took to the stage. Alec’s heartfelt story of staying at Scott House shortly after it opened, while his son Joseph received treatment, reminded us of the enduring impact our ‘Homes from Home’ have on families navigating some of life’s most difficult moments.
