Warboys Runners launch 10k virtual challenge to raise money for Cambridge ‘Homes from Home’

Marc Thompson and the Warboys Runners have launched a virtual 10k event for all to take part in between 25 September and 4 October.

As events across the country continue to be cancelled, our supporters are moving mountains to let us know that they are still there raising money for us.

One of these supporters is Marc Thompson and the Warboys Runners. Marc has launched a virtual 10k for running enthusiasts, novices and walkers alike to take part in between Friday 25 September and Sunday 4 October to raise £300 for our ‘Homes from Home’. As a dad whose family has experienced first-hand the difference having a ‘Home from Home’ makes, he is passionate about giving other families a place to stay when their child is seriously ill in hospital. Marc said:

“After a 10k event I was supposed to take part in got cancelled and was changed to a virtual race, I started thinking about how this would affect The Sick Children’s Trust. I knew other events would be cancelled so decided to create my own. With the help from Jon at Local Buzz Marketing, who has been amazing in creating the website, videos and images for our social media, the event has really come together and we are so excited to get more people signed up to help raise money for this charity which is close to my heart.

“My partner and I stayed at the charity’s Chestnut House in Cambridge a few years ago when our daughter was in hospital. Being able to have a base to keep our items such as clothing and getting a well needed rest, while only being two minutes away from her was the most important thing. The Sick Children’s Trust enabled us to constantly be there, taking it in shifts, without having to travel back home which was amazing.

“We have continued to support the charity over the years, but now more than ever it needs our support. To anyone who wants to do something, I’d encourage you to take part. This run, walk or jog can be done anywhere – no previous experience required! We have a lot of new walkers and runners signed up and some heavily experienced ones too. The best part is that everyone will get a medal, a lovely one off wooden one which will remind you every day that you completed this challenge and helped to keep a family with a child in hospital together.”

To take part, participants need to register via the Warboys Runners website and pay an entry fee of £12 which will go towards The Sick Children’s Trust.
