The Sick Children’s Trust, the charity that gives families with a seriously ill child in hospital a warm and comfortable place to stay when they need it most, is delighted to announce that multitalented entertainer Alfie Joey has become an official ambassador for the charity.

A key personality in the arts and entertainment industries of the north-east, Alfie Joey is a man of many talents. In addition to hosting BBC Radio Newcastle’s flagship breakfast show between 2009 and 2022, Alfie is a renowned podcaster, artist, comedian, actor and impressionist, as well as an award-winning communication coach, being named Communicator of the Year by the prestigious Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in 2023.
Having been in high demand for more than two decades, Alfie has motivated and inspired people at Ted X, MC’d Wembley Arena as well as acted in sitcoms and pantomimes. In 2016, Alfie’s appearance on Britain’s Got Talent as one half of The Mimic Men, alongside fellow impressionist Cal Halbert, was watched by over 10 million people on prime-time TV and has been viewed over three million times on YouTube.
As an ambassador Alfie will continue to play a vitally important role in raising the profile of The Sick Children’s Trust, particularly in the north-east thanks to his involvement in fundraising events and as part of the Toon Council, a collective of prominent people from the world of sport, business and entertainment who raise funds for and awareness of the charity. The Toon Council works tirelessly in their efforts to support The Sick Children’s Trust’s two ‘Homes from Home’ in Newcastle, with Scott House supporting families of sick children being treated at the Freeman Hospital and Crawford House serving families at Royal Victoria Infirmary. Speaking about his new ambassadorial role, Alfie Joey said:
“I’m so, so proud to be an ambassador for The Sick Children’s Trust and when I was asked to do it, I said yes without hesitation. When I first came across The Sick Children’s Trust eight years ago, it was clear to me just how vital their ‘Homes from Home’ are to those families who need them. Not only that, but I could also see where every single penny being raised was going, and it blew me away. After visiting Scott House and Crawford House, that was it for me – I was all in. I love this charity and everything it stands for.”
Reflecting on his first visit to Crawford House, Alfie Joey said:
“Aside from seeing first-hand how the ‘Home from Home’ supported so many families, I was curious about why it was called Crawford House. I soon learned that it was named after Michael Crawford, the president of The Sick Children’s Trust. Michael Crawford is one of my all-time heroes, a giant of entertainment to me. When they asked me if I’d like to interview Michael on the radio, I couldn’t believe it. He was absolutely brilliant, and it is still one of my favourite ever interviews. I was lucky enough to finally meet him in person at the charity’s Ruby Slipper Gala 40th anniversary celebration in London last year, which was something of a dream come true for me and we raised a lot of money that night. I’m absolutely delighted to be part of this wonderful charity; it is a big honour.”
Commenting about Alfie’s new role with the charity, Jane Featherstone, Chief Executive Officer of The Sick Children’s Trust, said:
“We are all thrilled that Alfie has agreed to become an ambassador of The Sick Children’s Trust. He has been a passionate supporter of ours for many years, actively championing our cause in the north-east both as an individual and as part of the wonderful Toon Council fundraising committee.
