Why become a Friend of The Sick Children’s Trust?

Every day, children are admitted to hospital with a serious condition, illness or injury that means they need hospital treatment, sometimes far from their home. Often families don’t know how long their child will be in hospital for and sometimes hospitals don’t have the facilities to offer families of seriously ill children somewhere to stay.

That’s where The Sick Children’s Trust helps. We provide families with a comfortable place to stay and friendly ear to listen in our ‘Homes from Home’, just minutes from their sick child’s hospital bed, giving them one less thing to worry about. By becoming a Friend of The Sick Children’s Trust, you’re ensuring we can continue to keep families with a seriously ill child in hospital together.

Helping families like Isaac's

Helping families like Isaac's

Isaac has always been very active and social, but in November 2020 he fell ill and was constantly vomiting. Scans revealed that there was issue with Isaac’s heart. His left chamber wasn’t pumping and his whole body was suffering. He was put on the heart transplant list and in the meantime has been fitted with a ventricular assist device (VAD), which is an electric powered heart pump that works with the heart to improve blood flow. Isaac and his parents, Emma and David, lived in our self-contained flat at Scott House.

“Having Scott House has given David and I a chance to live with Isaac on our own, while doing the jobs of changing his dressings and giving him his medications. We have been able to absorb it all and take care of Isaac which has built our confidence up massively. The thought of leaving the ward and going straight home was frightening but seeing the hospital just across from Scott House is a huge comfort”. Emma Sidaway, Isaac’s Mum

“The Sick Children’s Trust is so much more personal than other children’s charities. You really are making a difference to families during some of the most difficult times of their lives, bringing some comfort to them by supporting their stay in a ‘Home from Home’.

Not only that, but our regular donation helps The Sick Children’s Trust plan for their future so that they can keep families together. It’s a great thing to be part of.”

“We have been a Friend of The Sick Children’s Trust for five years now and we are happy to have given families with a seriously ill child in hospital a bit of normality in what must be an incredibly challenging time. Keeping the whole family together in the charity’s ‘Homes from Home’ gives them one less thing to worry about, which is a wonderful thing to be part of.”
