Super Supporter surpasses expectations with Eckersley House fundraiser

Peter Ashton's Pen-y-Ghent walk raises vital funds for The Sick Children’s Trust after we supported his family at our Leeds 'Home from Home'

Our Super Supporters raise vital funds to ensure that we can keep families with a seriously ill child in hospital together. One of such Super Supporter is Peter Ashton. He tells us how The Sick Children’s Trust supported his family as well as his effort to raise funds for the charity.

In the autumn of 2021, our son Oliver was extremely poorly with a brain infection, which required two life-saving craniotomies. He spent nearly four weeks at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), requiring two life-saving craniotomies.

During this time The Sick Children’s Trust provided us with accommodation at their Eckersley House ‘Home from Home’, opposite the entrance to the hospital. They catered for all our needs, at no cost to us at all, which is just amazing.

It allowed us to be with Oli pretty much 24/7, as we didn’t have to travel to and from home (in Skipton, West Yorkshire). We are extremely grateful that this service was there for us as it made a huge difference.

To say thank you and to raise funds to allow the support of other families in need, a group of us – including Oli, who is making steady progress and getting back to his happy self – climbed Pen-y-Ghent in North Yorkshire in May.

I originally put down £500 as target but hope to get nearer to £1000 and hope this will help other families during such difficult times.

At the time of writing, Peter had smashed his fundraising target, with over £1,150 received in donations for The Sick Children’s Trust. What a wonderful effort. You can sponsor Peter at Justgiving.com/fundraising/ashton22 .
