The Long Ride Home

The Long Ride Home

1 June 2024

Be part of our epic cycling challenge from London to Newcastle

The Long Ride Home challenge

There are three Long Ride Home Challenges you can take on in June

What?

This is the UK’s longest charity-led bike ride from London to Newcastle, a route through beautiful landscapes as you visit The Sick Children’s Trust’s ‘Homes from Home’ in Cambridge, Sheffield and Leeds along the way. The 3 and 5 day challenges are supported by our tour operator, Discover Adventure.

Why take part?

Our ‘Homes from Home’ offer a welcoming place to stay for families when their sick child is in hospital. But we’re more than bricks and mortar, our friendly, caring staff are there to support families when they really need it. Hospital can be a lonely and scary place for anyone, but especially a child. Providing families with somewhere to stay together just minutes from the hospital means that they can be by their sick child’s side and have one less thing to worry about.

This incredible long distance challenge represents the large distances our families often travel to be by their sick child’s hospital bedside, but with our support these families can be together when they really need it.

In our first Long Ride Home Challenge in 2023, David Plane led a team of nine cyclists, riding from London to Newcastle, raising a sensational £44,367.

“Taking part in The Long Ride Home was a perfect way for me to combine my passion for cycling and adventure, with my admiration and support for The Sick Children’s Trust. The event was terrific from start to finish, brilliantly organised, with a real sense of purpose.

We stopped at every ‘Home from Home’ meeting the families, the staff and being cheered on by siblings and cousins of kids who were going through same really tough times in hospitals. This inspired us further to push that bit harder, pedal that bit stronger and we all pulled together as a team to help each other get across the line.”
