61 super supporters raise over £35,000 by taking on Great North Run

Our fantastic #TeamSCT runners raised £35,000 by taking on the Great North Run

Yesterday 61 runners took on 13.1 miles in the 40th Great North Run to raise money to give families with a seriously ill child in hospital a ‘Home from Home’.

Many of those running for us this year know first-hand the difference our ‘Homes from Home’ make. Lots of them have stayed with us when their child has been in hospital. One mum who completed the course yesterday, Jenny, stayed with us for four months at Crawford House.

Talking at Charity Village about the Great North Run, she said: “It was hard but running for #TeamSCT got me through. We would’ve been lost without this charity.”

The new route saw runners loop around Newcastle, seeing the city in all its glory. The weather was perfect for our runners. Not too hot, not too cold and with a sprinkling of rain which helped cool them down as they stacked up the miles.

Our amazing cheer team gave every runner the biggest, boldest and loudest cheer as they passed 5.5km and 14.5km marks – making sure they knew we were there to help get them through the distance.

As they crossed the finish line, there were smiles from ear to ear as our runners were celebrated and welcomed into Charity Village by family, friends and given a hot cuppa!

Thanks to these amazing runners, we will be able to support hundreds of families with a place to stay as they have raised over £35,000! And we’re still counting.

Thank you to everyone who took part, you were truly inspirational. You can see the action from the day by visiting our Instagram page and looking at our #TeamSCT highlight.
