Volunteers have always made a huge impact on our charity and the families we support at The Sick Children’s Trust. Over the years we have had volunteers redecorate our ‘Homes from Home’, tidy our gardens, iron thousands of bedsheets, cook hundreds of homemade meals and most importantly make a cup of tea and sit with a family whose child is seriously ill in hospital.
Your presence as volunteers has a huge impact on the families we support, who are going through such uncertain times. You help us to give them a warm, comfortable and safe place to stay when they need it most. Although over the last year, sadly, we have not been able to welcome volunteers into our ‘Homes from Home’ we cannot wait to invite them in again.
We’re delighted though that some of our volunteers have been able to continue helping us. You may remember Marianne who we shone the spotlight on last year. Marianne used to work for LV= which selected us as one of their corporate partnerships. Marianne said:
“There is something so humbling to be able to cook meals for the families, and we have had some amazing feedback from them. Coming into the house and knowing the can just grab something we have made makes their day a bit easier.”
A few months ago, Marianne joined The Sick Children’s Trust as an Assistant House Manager at our Cambridge ‘Homes from Home’.
We also welcomed back Eric Davis, a valued Head Office volunteer who has been with us since October 2017. Over the last few months Eric has been supporting our Special Events Manager with sourcing prizes for our online Auction House, due to take place later this year after the success of 2020 first-ever event. Eric said:
“I have been volunteering for The Sick Children’s Trust for the last three years and before the pandemic I would go into the office twice a week to help source prizes for events and do whatever else was asked of me. The last year has been up and down for everyone, but I’m glad to know that the charity has been able to continue to support families. I am proud to be a volunteer for The Sick Children’s Trust to help them achieve their goal and I really am looking forward to seeing everyone again in the near future.”
As today is the beginning of Volunteers’ Week we want to thank everyone who has ever done any volunteering for us. We hope we will be able to welcome you back soon.
